Artist Dan Hudson specializes in the painterly depiction of children with emphasis on personality and character revelation. He also develops similar classically styled renderings of adult subjects. Dan’s talents in portraiture are directed toward meaningfulness of the subject and context of the setting so that painting becomes more than mere imagery - but that the liveliness of the subject should be revealed and celebrated in a positive way.
Painting in oil on canvas
The Process.
The artist Dan meets with clients/subjects to take photographs for compositional study. With client's approval on the planned composition, pose and canvas size, he begins early under-painting development and shares with the client several photographic images of this progressive proof. Any corrections to the composition can then be addressed. The process of oil painting usually takes Dan about 3-4 weeks depending on the scale and size of the particular canvas. When the paint is dry enough to handle the client may take the canvas for framing. The final varnish will be applied by Dan 6-8 months later at which time the oil paint would have completely cured and oxidized. Many framing shops may offer this varnishing service as well.
